One of your more fraught features on a blog has got to be The Dreaded List of Links.

What should be a harmless, helpful guide more often becomes a Gordian Knot of obligation and anxiety:

  • Do you list everything you’ve ever read & liked?
  • Only what you’re reading right now?
  • Friends?
  • People you want to have be your friends?
  • Is your policy one of reciprocal linkage?

Or—horror of horrors—are you just linking to stuff you think other people will find you cool for linking to?

Didn’t know the blogroll was so much like high school, did you? Neither did I. That’s why this page disappeared for some time.

But like it or not, one of the ways people find what’s good is these damned lists of links. It’s fast and easy and there are a lot of demands on our time.

So I’ve put it back up, albeit in a much abbreviated incarnation. If you were here and are now gone and I have hurt your feelings, I’m sorry. If it’s any consolation, I took links to some of my other blogs down. And hey, while I have a not-unreasonable amount of Google-juice, it’s not like I’m a 500-lb. gorilla of the blogosphere; me listing you here would not go far towards making you internet-famous.

These links? They’re stuff I feel it necessary to point out to people right now. No more, no less. Unless you’ve been off the planet without WiFi for the past 10 years, you’ve probably heard of some; that’s good, because it will give some context for the others.

Thanks for understanding. And happy surfing.
